Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries 

FTE: 1.0 (Full-time)
Reports to: Minister for Nurture and Discipleship
Supervises: Associate for Age-Level Ministries, paid childcare workers, volunteers serving children's and youth ministries
Collaborates with: Minister for Nurture and Discipleship, Hospitality Coordinator, Children's Music Director
Compensation: $40 - $50K 

Position Summary

The Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries is the primary staff leader responsible for all age-level ministries at Asbury First United Methodist Church. This role, with the support of the Associate for Age-Level Ministries, provides hands-on leadership for weekly programming, including Sundays, Vacation Bible School, youth groups, confirmation logistics, Wednesday evening programming, youth mission trips, Family and Older Adult Ministries, working in close coordination with ministry staff and trained volunteers. This position is programmatic, front-facing, relational, operational in nature, and does not require ordination.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Children’s Ministries (Birth-Elementary)
    • Coordinate weekly children’s programming, including Sunday School,      
      nursery care, and seasonal offerings such as Vacation Bible School.
    • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers and paid childcare staff.
    • Oversee Safe Sanctuaries compliance and maintain required documentation.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers.
    • Collaborate with worship, music, and arts staff to support children’s participation in worship, seasonal offerings, and intergenerational events.
  • Youth Ministries (Middle & High School)
    • In strategic cooperation with the Minister for Nurture and Discipleship, plan, lead, and coordinate weekly middle and high school youth groups, including preparation, teaching, and relational leadership.
    • Recruit, train, and support youth ministry volunteers.
    • Plan and coordinate youth mission trips, retreats, and service experiences.
    • Coordinate confirmation logistics, schedules, and milestones in alignment with the church’s discipleship framework.
    • Serve as the primary staff contact for youth and their families.
  • Wednesday Evening Programming
    • Plan and implement family, intergenerational, and Older Adult events throughout the year.
    • Support family faith formation through communication, resources, and programming.
    • Coordinate age-level participation in church-wide initiatives and seasonal emphases.
  • Program Administration
    • Maintain attendance records, registrations, and volunteer schedules.
    • Manage age-level ministry budgets in coordination with supervising staff.
    • Prepare calendars and program communications in collaboration with church staff.
    • Participate in annual goal setting and regular evaluation of direct reports. 
  • Collaboration and Accountability
    • Work under the supervision of the Minister for Nurture and Discipleship to ensure alignment with congregational mission, values, and discipleship priorities.
    • Participate in regular staff meetings, planning processes, and evaluations.
    • Collaborate with other ministry staff to support integrated congregational life.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Theological education or ministry-related coursework preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children and/or youth in a ministry, educational, or nonprofit setting.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers.
  • Strong organizational, relational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedule.
  • Commitment to Safe Sanctuaries policies and practices.
  • Warm, friendly, and welcoming presence.

Associate for for Age-Level Ministries 

FTE: .5 (20 hours per week)
Reports to: Coordinator for Age Level Ministries
Collaborates with: Minister for Nurture and Discipleship, Children's Music Director
Compensation: $25K 

Position Summary

The Associate for Age-Level Ministries supports the ministries of children, middle school, and high school youth at Asbury First United Methodist Church. This role assists with weekly programming, Vacation Bible School, youth groups, mission trips, and special events under the direction of the Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries, working closely with volunteers and ministry staff.

This position is assistive and program-focused in nature and does not carry primary responsibility for program design, supervision, or strategic leadership.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Youth Ministry Support (Middle & High School)
    • Assist with weekly middle school and high school youth groups, as assigned by the Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries.
    • Support preparation, facilitation, setup, and follow-up for youth group gatherings and activities.
    • Assist with Wednesday evening youth programming, including preparation, setup, and follow-up, as assigned.
    • Support youth mission trips, retreats, and service experiences under the direction of the Coordinator.
    • Build positive, appropriate relationships with youth participants.
  • Children’s Ministry Support
    • Assist with children’s programming and special events, including Vacation Bible School,
      as assigned.
    • Support volunteer leaders and childcare staff during programming times.
    • Help ensure Safe Sanctuaries policies are followed during assigned activities.
  • Program and Administrative Support
    • Assist with program logistics, registrations, attendance tracking, and communication, as assigned.
    • Support preparation of materials and spaces for age-level programming.
    • Provide on-site support for seasonal and intergenerational events.
  • Collaboration and Accountability
    • Work under the supervision and direction of the Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries. Communicate regularly regarding assigned responsibilities and scheduling.
    • Participate in staff meetings, training, and evaluation processes as appropriate.
    • Collaborate with volunteers and other staff to support integrated congregational life.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and/or youth in a ministry, educational, or nonprofit
    setting preferred.
  • Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedule.

Communications Assistant

FTE: .25 (10-12 hours per week)
Reports to: Director of Communications
Compensation: $10K

General Role and Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Communications to implement communication programs to disseminate important information to the congregation, improve brand awareness, brand recall, and audience engagement at Asbury First and the Community Outreach Center. 

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Work with the Director of Communications to create, organize, and maintain materials for the weekly worship bulletins, the weekly email newsletter, a monthly print newsletter and all news/announcements for the week. 
  2. Assist with the creation and maintenance of all print materials for the church as well as the Community Outreach Center. Signage may include directional signage, clothing labels in the Storehouse, meal related signage for the Dining & Caring Center, lawn signs, indoor and outdoor banners, and materials related to hospitality.
  3. Photograph events/services around campus to document the story of Asbury First. Events may include Worship Services, VBS, the Farmers Market, the Community Outreach Center, special events as well as new members, personnel, and other subjects as necessary. Photography equipment is provided.
  4. Help maintain asburyfirst.org by updating news items, event highlights, committee minutes, staff and volunteer lists, and assist the Director of Communications with general upkeep of the site. 
  5. Assist with the weekly e-newsletter and weekly service reminder for dissemination to the email database of members utilizing the events and news. 
  6. Create slides and graphics for weekly worship service livestream highlighting upcoming important events, and removing outdated slides from rotation.
  7. Assist with the production of special video segments for use online and during Worship Services.
  8. Assist in Managing our social media presence on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Production of static social media posts, as well as basic editing of text, basic video editing, and other social media content. 
  9. Ensure that both digital and physical signage around campus is updated with the most recent information.
  10. Assist in the creation of promotional materials for Asbury First-related groups such as the Asbury First Community Theatre, the Banned Book Club, and VBS.  
  11. Update and design/create the Welcome Hall Bulletin Board to coordinate with events or seasons.
  12. Perform other tasks as assigned.  

Qualifications

  • Experienced photographer of social events. Able to capture the activities of Asbury First, edit the photos, and supply them to the Director of Communications for use in print, on the website, and in various social media platforms.
  • Some basic understanding of different graphic formats like jpeg and png, resolution and dpi, a must.
  • Software proficiencies include the Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere), Google Docs, and a familiarity with Social Media such as Facebook and Instagram. 
  • Experience in marketing, messaging, communications, and designing for print and web a plus.
