Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries
FTE: 1.0 (Full-time)
Reports to: Minister for Nurture and Discipleship
Supervises: Associate for Age-Level Ministries, paid childcare workers, volunteers serving children's and youth ministries
Collaborates with: Minister for Nurture and Discipleship, Hospitality Coordinator, Children's Music Director
Compensation: $40 - $50K
Position Summary
The Coordinator for Age-Level Ministries is the primary staff leader responsible for all age-level ministries at Asbury First United Methodist Church. This role, with the support of the Associate for Age-Level Ministries, provides hands-on leadership for weekly programming, including Sundays, Vacation Bible School, youth groups, confirmation logistics, Wednesday evening programming, youth mission trips, Family and Older Adult Ministries, working in close coordination with ministry staff and trained volunteers. This position is programmatic, front-facing, relational, operational in nature, and does not require ordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Children’s Ministries (Birth-Elementary)
- Coordinate weekly children’s programming, including Sunday School,
nursery care, and seasonal offerings such as Vacation Bible School.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers and paid childcare staff.
- Oversee Safe Sanctuaries compliance and maintain required documentation.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers.
- Collaborate with worship, music, and arts staff to support children’s participation in worship, seasonal offerings, and intergenerational events.
- Youth Ministries (Middle & High School)
- In strategic cooperation with the Minister for Nurture and Discipleship, plan, lead, and coordinate weekly middle and high school youth groups, including preparation, teaching, and relational leadership.
- Recruit, train, and support youth ministry volunteers.
- Plan and coordinate youth mission trips, retreats, and service experiences.
- Coordinate confirmation logistics, schedules, and milestones in alignment with the church’s discipleship framework.
- Serve as the primary staff contact for youth and their families.
- Wednesday Evening Programming
- Plan and implement family, intergenerational, and Older Adult events throughout the year.
- Support family faith formation through communication, resources, and programming.
- Coordinate age-level participation in church-wide initiatives and seasonal emphases.
- Program Administration
- Maintain attendance records, registrations, and volunteer schedules.
- Manage age-level ministry budgets in coordination with supervising staff.
- Prepare calendars and program communications in collaboration with church staff.
- Participate in annual goal setting and regular evaluation of direct reports.
- Collaboration and Accountability
- Work under the supervision of the Minister for Nurture and Discipleship to ensure alignment with congregational mission, values, and discipleship priorities.
- Participate in regular staff meetings, planning processes, and evaluations.
- Collaborate with other ministry staff to support integrated congregational life.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
- Theological education or ministry-related coursework preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with children and/or youth in a ministry, educational, or nonprofit setting.
- Experience recruiting, training, and coordinating volunteers.
- Strong organizational, relational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by program schedule.
