9:00 AM – Bill Bellman, New York State Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator.
9:30 AM – Bob Featherstone, Asbury Community Garden – Bob will discuss applying good environmental practices in the
management of the Asbury Garden.
10:00 AM – Nick Lord, Flower City Bee Works – Nick will discuss the construction of his bee houses and the impact and
benefits of urban beekeeping as well as the benefits that native pollinators provide.
10:30 AM – James Hart, Certified Arborist and Forestry Technician – City of Rochester Forestry Division, International Society of Arborists James will talk about the Tree Expansion/Beautification Initiative and present a PowerPoint about “Tree Selection and Services Offered.”
11:00 AM – Janet Chaize, Hundred Acres Nature Park/Rush Recreation and Park Association – will discuss progress in preserving 50 acres of forest and planting native perennials and over 500 native trees and bushes on the 50 acres that had been farmed. She will describe Nature Walks and Educational Opportunities on the land as well as Volunteer opportunities and where to get native plants.
11:30 AM – Judy Kay, Master Gardener Emerita from Maryland who moved to Rochester in 2022 and is filling her yard with plants native to this area. – Judy will present a PowerPoint about Native Plants: Why Do We Need Them; Which Ones to Plant; and How to Plant Them.
Throughout the event, Doug Carney from Impact Earth will have a table and be available to discuss mulching, recycling and how to minimize our carbon footprints. Impact Earth products will be available.
The event will be held in the Gathering Center at Asbury First.
