LGBTQ

Homosexuality and gender identity have been contentious subjects, hotly debated in our denomination for decades. As of May 3, 2024, at the United Methodist Church General Conference in Charlotte, NC, delegates overwhelmingly voted to repeal its ban on LGBTQ clergy as well as prohibitions on its ministers from officiating at same-sex weddings.

Asbury First affirms that no one – irrespective of age, racial identity, gender or gender identity, or sexual orientation – is incompatible with the church's ministry and teaching. LGBTQ+ persons are a Good expression of God’s diverse creation and we advocate for the affirmation of all of God’s children in the Church and the world. We now celebrate the potential for full participation of all LGBTQ+ people throughout the life and leadership of the Church.

Same-Sex Weddings

Saturday, January 13, Asbury First celebrated the wedding of Christopher Gold and Cory Tylenda, an important milestone as this was Asbury First's first same-sex wedding.

The Gold-Tylenda Wedding was truly an accomplishment due to the continued support and resolve of inclusiveness on behalf of all members of Asbury First.
